CEO Joseph Sluka: Guiding transformation at St. Charles Health System

Joseph Sluka, MBA, stepped into his role as president and CEO of the nonprofit St. Charles Health System, based in Bend, Ore., on Dec. 1, 2014.

St. Charles Health System includes four hospitals and is the largest employer in central Oregon. Mr. Sluka was unanimously voted into the position by the system's board.

"Culturally and professionally, Joe is the right person to guide our organization through the many changes the healthcare industry is experiencing," Tom Sayeg, JD, chairman of the board told KTVZ news. "He has a history of working closely with physicians and successfully implementing Lean methodologies, and has the skills to help the health system meet the high standard of care our community expects and deserves."

Mr. Sluka steps into the new position after serving for four years as executive vice president and chief administration officer of the Rapid City, S.D.-based Regional Health, a similar 5-hospital system. He first came to Regional Health in 2005 and served in a variety of positions, including vice president of managed care. Mr. Sluka previously served as executive director of Western Health, a health insurance division of Regional Health.

He previously led Akron, Ohio-based HF Medical Management as COO and served as executive director and COO of MedPartners, a now disbanded physician practice organization.
