Cancer Treatment Centers of America lays off 50 in Atlanta

Boca Raton, Fla.-based Cancer Treatment Centers of America laid off 50 employees in Atlanta, according to the Newnan Times-Herald.

One employee told the publication layoffs included physicians, licensed practical nurses and an acupuncturist.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America did not provide details about the layoffs, but its statement to the Times-Herald cited reimbursement issues.

"Like the vast majority of U.S. healthcare providers facing pressure to reduce costs, Cancer Treatment Centers of America has found it necessary to make certain organizational and staffing changes to align with declining reimbursement trends," the statement said

Two employees told the Times-Herald laid-off employees were given a month's severance pay.

Cancer Treatment Centers of America operates hospitals in Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, Phoenix and Tulsa, Okla., as well as outpatient centers in Illinois and Arizona. It reportedly is laying off employees systemwide, including in Boca Raton.
