Bay Medical Center in Panama City, Fla., part of the Pensacola, Fla.-based Sacred Heart Health System, has laid off 58 full-time employees, according to a report by The News Herald.
The hospital is struggling financially due to Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement cuts and the rising levels of charity care provided. "We are simply having to adjust our cost structure to align with our revenue stream," Barry Keel, the hospital's CEO, told The News Herald.
No clinical positions were affected by the layoffs. Bay Medical offered employees severance packages based on tenure if the employees had been with the hospital for more than a year.
