Arizona Hospitals Consider Tax to Close Medicaid Shortfall

The Arizona Hospital and Healthcare Association is advancing a proposal to institute a hospital provider tax that would help close a budget shortfall for the state's Medicaid program, according to a Bloomberg report.

The specifics of the proposal have not been released as it has not yet been presented to lawmakers.

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer has said she doesn't believe a tax could raise enough money to close the shortfall and that a cut in Medicaid enrollment is being pursued.
