The following seven hospital and health system layoffs and workforce reductions were covered by Becker's Hospital Review in the last two weeks. They are listed below by number of employees and/or positions affected.
1. Glens Falls Hospital to Start Second Round of Layoffs
Glens Falls (N.Y.) Hospital plans to cut down its workforce through voluntary and involuntary layoffs. Ninety-five employees applied for voluntary separations, which exceeded the 50-application goal the hospital initially set.
2. CHRISTUS St. Vincent to Eliminate 94 Positions
CHRISTUS St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe, N.M., plans to lay off 36 employees and eliminate 58 other positions. Fifteen management positions and 13 union jobs will be affected by the cuts.
3. More Layoffs on the Way at Northside Medical Center
Youngstown, Ohio-based Northside Medical Center, an affiliate of ValleyCare Health System of Ohio in Youngstown, is eliminating 56 full-time positions. This announcement comes mere months after the hospital laid off 77 employees in August.
4. Wing Memorial Hospital Cuts 16 Positions, 38 Employees' Hours
Palmer, Mass.-based Wing Memorial Hospital & Medical Center eliminated 16 positions and cut the hours of 38 other employees.
5. Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital to Lay Off 31
Elkin, N.C.-based Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital plans to lay off 31 employees, or about 3 percent of its workforce.
6. Titusville Area Hospital Eliminates 18 Jobs
Titusville (Pa.) Area Hospital eliminated 18 full-time equivalent positions. Layoffs, retirements and reductions in some employees' hours contributed to the workforce reduction.
7. Maine Coast Memorial Hospital Turns to Layoffs
Ellsworth-based Maine Coast Memorial Hospital needs to trim $3 million from its budget, which will lead to layoffs. It was yet clear how many of the hospital's 650 employees will be affected by the layoffs.
