52 New York Hospitals Receive Quality Improvement Incentive Payments

Fifty-two hospitals in upstate New York received more than $19 million in collective quality improvement incentive payments last year from Univera and Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, according to a Buffalo News report.

The quality improvement incentive payments are part of the health insurers' Hospital Performance Incentive Program, which was launched in 2004. Through the program, health insurers evaluate hospital members' performances based on more than 300 measures, which were established from industry benchmarks.

Hospitals that received payments include Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk, Catholic Health System in Buffalo, Chautauqua Integrated Delivery System in Jamestown, Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport and Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, according to the report.
