5 things to know about Kern Medical Center's new name

Bakersfield, Calif.-based Kern Medical Center, the community's only trauma center, is rebranding as Kern Medical.

Here are five things to know about the new name.

1. Kern Medical said the name change, while subtle, "better represents its comprehensive model of care."

2. Kern Medical will remain Bakersfield's academic training hospital and continue its affiliation with UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine in Los Angeles.

3. However, the organization now expands to the west side of Bakersfield with two new clinics. Both clinics provide endocrinology, rheumatology, internal medicine, pulmonology, neurology, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT and other surgical and medical specialties.

 4. Russell Judd, CEO of Kern Medical, called the name change "representative of our evolution."

"As we improve access to care, we also expand our geographic footprint.  That means moving beyond our main campus and offering more points of care," he said in a news release.

5. Along with the name change comes a new contemporary logo for Kern Medical, as well as fresh advertising, including TV and radio commercials, print advertising, outdoor billboards and signage in and around the Kern Medical campus.
