A 10-foot-tall inflatable colon, used to educate people about colon cancer and disease, was stolen Oct. 20 while in route to a cancer event in Kansas City, Mo., according to KCCI 8.
The 150-pound inflatable colon was taken from the back of a parked truck. The Colon Cancer Coalition owns the inflatable prop, which is valued at $4,000. The coalition ships the colon nationwide to walk/run events it hosts through its "Get Your Rear in Gear" campaign.
"Colon cancer is a tough subject for many to talk about and the giant, 150 pound, 10-foot long inflatable colon is a great conversation starter," John Ashcraft, MD, a surgical oncologist at The University of Kansas Cancer Center in Kansas City.
The Colon Cancer Coalition launched a fundraising campaign to replace the inflatable colon.
"We're on our way to replacing the #STOLENCOLON! Help [Get Your Rear In Gear] get back to raising #colorectalcancer awareness in Kansas City!" the group tweeted Oct. 21.
