The medical community in Bay County, Florida continues to make progress on recovery efforts after Hurricane Michael, although more work is still needed, The News Herald reported.
Five things to know:
1. Hurricane Michael hit the U.S. coastline last October.
2. Since then, there have been various recovery efforts, including the January opening of the 77-bed PruittHealth rehabilitation center in Panama City, Fla.
3. Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center in Panama City officially reopened in January, and Panama City-based Bay Medical Sacred Heart resumed limited inpatient care Jan. 2.
4. Many area physicians are seeing patients again, and only 12 left Bay County after the storm, according to Brad Griffin, CEO of Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center.
5. Still, there is more work ahead to complete recovery. According to The News Herald, many physicians work in temporary offices and have seen fewer patients than before Hurricane Michael. Gulf Coast Regional Medical Center has struggled to fully staff departments.
