Jack Drew, president and CEO of Athens (Ga.) Regional Medical Center, has announced he will step down Dec. 31, 2011, following his 29th anniversary with the hospital, according to an Athens Banner-Herald report.
Under Mr. Drew's leadership, Athens General Hospital became ARMC in 1985 and later grew into Athens Regional Health Services in the mid-1990s. Mr. Drew helped transform the system from an 871-employee community hospital into a major regional medical center and the second largest employer in the region.
Mr. Drew has also led ARMC through six major expansions, including a recently completed emergency department, obstetric center and wound care center.
ARMC and ARHS boards will conduct a national search for Mr. Drew's successor, to be named next summer.
