When 25-year lessee Health Management Associates leaves The Fishermen's Hospital in Marathon, Fla., next summer, the board will decide whether to keep CEO Kim Bassett, according to a Keys Net report.
Ms. Bassett said she would like to remain in the position, but hospital board chairman Marv Schindler said the board will interview various prospective CEOs and CFOs — including Ms. Bassett — before HMA departs. Ms. Bassett works for a company that has been at odds with the hospital board over how to run the hospital.
The hospital board voted in early August to hire Tennessee-based Quorum Health Resources to manage Fishermen's starting next summer. The board will also be responsible for the hospital's financial success, a responsibility that previous fell to HMA.
