John Popovich Jr., MD, a pulmonary physician, has been appointed president and chief executive officer of 802-bed Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, according to a release from the hospital.
He replaces Anthony A. Armada, who resigned in October to become president of 492-bed Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill.
"As a physician leader, John offers a unique perspective for this role, merging his long-standing career in medicine in Detroit with innovative ideas to grow and clinically strengthen Henry Ford Hospital," said Bob Riney, executive vice president and COO of Henry Ford Health System.
Dr. Popovich has spent 30 years at Henry Ford Health System, most recently as senior vice president for clinical affairs. He previously was division head of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine for 10 years.
He earned his MD from the University of Michigan Medical School and completed his residency and fellowship at Henry Ford. He is a past chair of the American Board of Internal Medicine.
