University of Washington Medicine to Pilot Palliative Care Training Center

The Cambia Health Foundation has awarded almost $700,000 to the University of Washington Medicine in Seattle to build a palliative care training center over the next three years.

The funds will be used for construction and the development of a long-term business plan and interdisciplinary curriculum. UW Medicine will also bring together several palliative care stakeholders — ranging from hospitals to nursing facilities — to create goals, visions and outcomes for the center.

The training center is part of the trend of more hospital-based palliative care programs across the country.
