Telemedicine Significantly Improves Rural Pediatric Care, Study Says

Telemedicine is a life-saver for critically injured or severely ill children in rural areas, according to a study published in the journal Critical Care Medicine.

The University of California Davis Children's Hospital study considered 320 critical pediatric patients admitted to telemedicine-equipped rural northern California emergency departments between 2003 and 2007.

Patients whose physicians engaged in a telemedicine consultation with pediatric specialists had better care quality, more accurate diagnoses and higher satisfaction levels, the study found.
