Slidell (La.) Memorial Hospital has broken ground on a new 64,000-square-foot cardiology unit and emergency department, according to a St. Tammany News report.
The cardiology unit will include 38 private inpatient rooms and a central patient monitoring station.
The ED will add 17 beds, bringing the total to 31. The facility will also house 17 private exam or treatment rooms, two secure treatment rooms, one isolation treatment room, one specialized bariatric isolation treatment room, two trauma rooms, six admit holding beds and a dedicated children's waiting area. The expansion will increase the ED's capacity by 121 percent, according to the report.
The project will be financed by a $25 million bond and is expected to be completed in June 2013.
