Lufkin-based Memorial Health System of East Texas announced a partnership with the Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center in Houston to create the East Texas Heart & Vascular Initiative.
This three-year partnership aims to enhance heart and vascular care by offering skills training for Memorial physicians and staff and by educating the public about heart and vascular disease prevention.
Under the initiative, Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, which is part of The Methodist Hospital System in Houston, will provide skills training and education designed specifically for heart and vascular professionals at Memorial, according to the release. MDHVC will also have a 24-hour direct referral line with remote viewing and conference options for Memorial physicians and staff. With MDHVC's help, Memorial plans to seek several nationally recognized certifications for its vascular lab, chest pain center and the heart failure/acute coronary syndrome program.
In addition, the Heart & Vascular Initiative will educate the community on heart and vascular disease with the help of a new full-time educator on the Memorial staff, who will also develop annual education programs for Memorial's clinical staff.
The initiative will be funded over the next three years with a $3.5 million grant from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation.
