Newman Regional Health in Emporia, Kan., is planning an all-inclusive Women's Breast Center, according to an Emporia Gazette report.
The approximately $600,000 center will be built in what is now the Human Resources Department office. Construction is scheduled to begin Sept. 15 and is expected to be completed by Jan. 1, 2012.
The center will include oncology, radiation, X-ray and other imaging services, allowing patients to access needed services in one area at one time. Currently, breast cancer patients at the hospital often have to wait for several weeks to get a biopsy after a mammogram, causing them to seek care elsewhere, according to the report.
