Elmhurst Hospital Center in Queens, N.Y., has opened a 13-bed chest pain observation unit, according to a Queens Ledger report.
The unit will be used to observe patients with chest pain who can be transferred to community-based services instead of being admitted to the hospital. The unit, which will work closely with the emergency department, aims to reduce wait times and serve more patients.
Daniel Dromm, a member of the New York City Council, allocated $1 million for the project.
