8 Latest Hospital Cancer Center Expansions

In an effort to offer the latest therapies to a larger number of cancer patients, hospitals and health systems are expanding and renovating their cancer centers. Here are eight of the largest oncology expansions in the past month, starting with the most recent.

1. Shawnee Mission Medical Center in Kansas began work on a $5.5 million outpatient cancer center, scheduled to open July 2013.

2. Zachary, La-based Lane Regional Medical Center and Baton Rouge (La.) General announced a plan to build a $3.5 million radiation oncology center on the Lane campus.

3. Adventist Hinsdale (Ill.) Hospital and Adventist La Grange (Ill.) Hospital began planning a two-story Adventist Cancer Institute in Hinsdale.

4. Winfield, Ill.-based Cadence Health System began an improvement project totaling nearly $100 million at Delnor Hospital in Geneva, Ill., including a cancer center scheduled to open in September.

5. Seattle-based Swedish Health Services opened a $10.9 million outpatient cancer center in Edmonds, Wash., on April 1.

6. Lancaster (Pa.) General Health announced construction on a $46 million cancer center in Lancaster, Pa., scheduled to open in July.

7. Bloomington, Minn.-based HealthPartners began planning a $4.2 million expansion of the cancer center at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Minn.

8. Adventist Hinsdale (Ill.) Hospital and Adventist La Grange (Ill.) Hospital began planning the Adventist Cancer Institute in Hinsdale, Ill.
