In an effort to offer the latest therapies to a larger number of cancer patients, hospitals and health systems are expanding and renovating their cancer centers. Here are eight of the largest oncology expansions in the past month, starting with the most recent.
- Truman Medical Centers in Kansas City, Mo., announced the dedication of its new expanded and relocated cancer center, scheduled to open in 2014.
- Waukesha, Wis.-based ProHealth Care announced plans to construct a $70 million cancer center in Pewaukee, Wis.
- Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah, is establishing an in-house cancer genomic program.
- McCook (Neb.) Community Hospital announced the start of construction on a new radiation oncology clinic.
- Dallas-based Baylor Health Care System and Texas Oncology broke ground on north Texas's first facility offering proton radiation therapy.
- Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Mich., announced the opening of a $12.5 million cancer center on the hospital's campus.
- A 52-acre plot of land in Litchfield, Conn., will be the site of a new cancer center that is a joint venture between Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington, Conn., and Yale- New Haven (Conn.) Hospital.
- Northwest Specialty Hospital in Post Falls, Idaho, partnered with Brian Samuels, MD, to open an oncology clinic.
