25% Door-to-Balloon Time Reduction in First Robot-Assisted Heart Stent Placement

Sanford Aberdeen (S.D.) Medical Center recently performed the first robot-assisted angioplasty for an acute heart attack patient and achieved a door-to-balloon time far below the national average.

The surgeons completed the angioplasty and restored blood flow to the patient's heart within 68 minutes of arriving in the operating room, 22 minutes faster than the 90 minute national average for the procedure, according to a news release.

Surgeons used the CorPath System to assist in the surgery. CorPath is currently the only FDA-approved system for robotic angioplasties.
