TennCare, the Medicaid program of Tennessee, has begun issuing notice about possible changes — ranging from how many times benefeciaries may visit a physician each year to completely terminating certain services, according to a Volunteer TV report.
With an $8 billion budget, TennCare is expected to make significant cuts in the coming fiscal year. Specific changes have not been approved or finalized, but include:
• Annual limit of eight days per person for inpatient hospital services.
• An annual eight-visit limit to physicians or nurse practitioners.
• Eliminating coverage of occupational therapy, speech therapy and physical therapy.
The goal is to trim $1.2 billion from the program, according to the report. These proposed changes may shave $306 million off the budget. TennCare's budget hearing is scheduled for Feb. 3.
