One day after Elliot Hospital in Manchester, N.H., along with nine other hospitals, filed a lawsuit against the state regarding Medicaid payments, President and CEO Doug Dean announced 182 layoffs, according to a NECN report.
Elliot Hospital will also close its telephone nurse line and cut employee benefits, according to the news report. The ten hospitals that are suing New Hampshire in federal court argue Medicaid cuts, which went into effect July 1, were made for state budgetary reasons, and the costs of treating Medicaid patients were not factored. The budget cuts totaled $115 million over two years.
