Missouri Bill Would Require Payors to Share Hospital Prices With Consumers

A Missouri Senate bill would require insurance companies to provide consumers with information on the cost of services through various medical providers, according to a Columbia Missourian report.

Under Senate Bill 122, people could simply type the services they need into a website to see the prices at various medical facilities for that particular type of care. Under the bill, insurance companies would not be able to charge extra for prescription medicine if prices fall below the co-pay, according to the report.

The bill's author, Sen. Rob Schaaf (R.-St. Joseph) said the bill would increase cost transparency that would bring competition into the healthcare industry.
