Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia said cash-strapped Doctors Medical Center in California may be forced to close next year if county residents vote down a special parcel tax in November, according to a Richmond Confidential report.
The parcel tax, which has already been approved by the West Contra Costa County Healthcare District board, would raise approximately $5.2 million every year. However, the tax would end if the hospital's emergency room or the entire facility shut down.
The proposed tax is the second to be proposed, after a 2004 tax was passed to save the hospital from closure.
