Trinity Medical Center in Birmingham, Ala., has received state certificate of need approval for its plans to relocate to a new facility near Highway 280, according to a news release by the hospital.
Trinity's approved CON application now enters a 30-day appeal period. Barring any appeals, construction will begin later this year, and the new hospital will be completed in approximately 24 months, according to the report.
Trinity Medical Center CEO Keith Granger called the need for a full-service hospital in the area "urgent and undeniable."
Several community members, however, have voiced concern over the move, saying the relocation will reduce access for those who live in East Birmingham, where the hospital is currently located, according to an NBC 13 News report.
