Burlington, Mass.-based Wellforce selected Michael Wagner, MD, to serve as interim CEO, beginning Jan. 1, 2019. He succeeds Norm Deschene, who announced Oct. 2 that he is retiring at the end of the year.
Dr. Wagner is currently chief physician executive for the health system, which was formed in 2014 by Boston-based Tufts Medical Center, Lowell, Mass.-based Circle Health as well as the physicians of New England Quality Care Alliance and Lowell (Mass.) General Physician Hospital Organization.
Dr. Wagner became Wellforce's chief physician executive in May, prior to which he was president and CEO of Tufts Medical Center and Floating Hospital for Children in Boston. A primary care physician, he has also served as CEO of EmCare Inpatient Services, a hospital inpatient physician management company.
The board plans to conduct a nationwide search for a permanent leader.
