Weems Memorial Hospital in Apalachicola, Fla., appointed David Walker interim CEO, effective immediately, according to an Apalachicola Times report.
Mr. Walker, a pastor in Apalachicola and a member of the hospital's board of directors, succeeds H.D. Cannington, who announced his resignation Aug. 7.
Mr. Walker was previously an operations manager at Franklin County's health department.
"What Pastor Walker may lack in hospital administrative experience, he makes up for in health department and other similar health program management," County Coordinator Michael Morón said at a special meeting with county commissioners, according to the Times. "This should allow the county and the Weems board of directors sufficient time to determine how to move forward with the management of the hospital and the county's healthcare system."
Mr. Walker signed a three-month agreement to lead the hospital. The agreement can be extended. He will work with Mr. Cannington until Sept. 7, when his resignation becomes effective.
