Ora Pescovitz, MD, CEO of Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Health System and executive vice president of medical affairs of the university, announced plans to step down from her positions, effective June 1, according to a blog post she wrote.
Dr. Pescovitz, a pediatric endocrinologist, is serving a five-year term and said in her post it was her decision to not renew her contract.
"I have been thinking about my future — both professionally and personally. Being EVPMA at the University of Michigan and CEO of the University of Michigan Health System has been an enormous privilege," she wrote. "I have been honored to lead this organization, which is what made this decision very difficult for me. I have decided to not serve a second five-year appointment."
Michael Johns III, MD, associate professor of otolaryngology at Emory University in Atlanta, has been named interim executive vice president, according to a Crain's Detroit Business report.
