Oakland, Calif.-based University of California Health has tapped Carrie L. Byington, MD, to serve as executive vice president, effective Oct. 31.
UC Health comprises University of California's five academic medical centers, a community-based health system and 18 health professional schools.
Dr. Byington is currently vice chancellor for health services at the Texas A&M University System in College Station; senior vice president of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center in Bryan; and the Jean and Thomas McMullin professor and dean of the Texas A&M College of Medicine, also in Bryan.
Before working at Texas A&M, , she was associate vice president, faculty and academic affairs at the University of Utah Health Sciences Center and principal investigator for the Utah Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences, both in Salt Lake City.
A pediatric infectious diseases specialist, Dr. Byington is an elected member of the National Academy of Medicine and National Academy of Inventors.
