Howard Federoff, MD, PhD, vice chancellor for health affairs at University of California, Irvine and CEO of the UCI Health System, resigned.
"[Dr. Federoff] is a brilliant physician and scientist," said UCI Chancellor Howard Gillman. "We are grateful for his three years of leadership as we expanded and reshaped our health enterprise for ongoing success."
Here are six notes:
1. Dr. Federoff, a neurobiologist, will retain his faculty position and continue his research work at UCI.
2. During his three-year tenure, UCI received a $200 million donation from Susan and Henry Samueli for the College of Health Sciences.
3. The roles of health system CEO and university vice chancellor will now become two separate positions.
4. Richard Gannotta, current COO of UCI Health, will take over as interim CEO.
5. Alan Goldin, M.D., Ph.D., the associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, will serve as interim vice chancellor for health affairs.
6. UCI will immediately begin searching for permanent replacements for the roles.
