Bob Sutton, president and CEO of Avera Saint Mary's Hospital in Pierre, S.D., has been promoted to executive vice president and chief human resources officer for the hospital's parent company, Sioux Falls, S.D.-based Avera, according to a Capital Journal report.
Here are four things to know about Mr. Sutton and his promotion.
1. Mr. Sutton will leave his current position at the end of 2015 and spend most of January 2016 adjusting to his new job.
2. He will take the new position from Bill McLean, Avera Health's senior vice president and human resources director when Mr. McLean retires Feb. 1, 2016.
3. When Mr. Sutton leaves Avera Saint Mary's, Todd Forkel, regional president and CEO of the Avera Saint Luke's region in Aberdeen, S.D., will take over as interim president and CEO for the Avera Saint Mary's region, which includes Avera's hospital in Gettysburg, S.D., two long-term care facilities and a clinic. Mr. Forkel will split his time between Aberdeen and Pierre.
4. Mr. Sutton said he will spend the rest of his time at Saint Mary's trying to finish a few projects he and the hospital's other leaders have already started work on, according to the report. That includes working to improve mental healthcare in central South Dakota. He also plans to help finalize the plan for how Saint Mary's facilities will grow and change over the next few years.
