Wayne Keathley will step down as inaugural president of Houston-based Baylor College of Medicine and Englewood, Colo.-based Catholic Health Initiatives' joint venture.
The partnership includes construction of a hospital on Baylor's McNair Campus, called CHI St. Luke's Health—Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.
Here are five things to know about Mr. Keathley.
1. He is stepping down as president with the completion of his agreed upon term.
2. According to Baylor, Mr. Keathley was a key leader in the formation of the joint venture, which provides financial support to the medical school's research and academic missions, and aligns the medical school with the strategic objectives of its hospital partner, Houston-based CHI St. Luke's Health.
3. As president, Mr. Keathley led the commissioning of a new hospital, developed and expanded clinical programs and services at BSLMC and took an active role in the development of new initiatives and collaborations with the Texas Heart Institute, part of CHI St. Luke's, Baylor officials said.
4. A committee is being formed to conduct a national search for the next president of BSLMC. Mr. Keathley will continue to lead the organization until his replacement is on board.
5. The announcement of Mr. Keathley's departure comes shortly after Baylor announced the hospital facility on the McNair Campus will become a 650-bed replacement hospital in 2019. The ambulatory surgery center is expected to be completed in March, the surgical specialty facility in May and the first bed tower in the fall of 2017.
