Johns Hopkins Medicine names first chief patient experience officer

Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine has named Lisa Allen, PhD, as its first chief patient experience officer.

Dr. Allen, a patient service and quality improvement expert with 25 years in the patient service field, took on her new role Sept. 15. Prior to this role, Dr. Allen was vice president of quality, patient experience and patient safety at Steward Health Care System in Boston.

Dr. Allen will have several responsibilities in the newly created position of chief patient experience officer. She will work to implement a performance improvement strategy supporting active involvement of patients and their families in treatment and care plans. She will also be responsible for data collection methods and quality improvement metrics and will develop interventions targeting areas of improvement identified by HCAHPS survey scores.

"The patient experience is at the very core of what we do," Ronald Peterson, president of The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Health System and executive vice president of Johns Hopkins Medicine, said. "Under Lisa's leadership, we will continue to provide the best clinical care while treating our patients and their loved ones the way we'd want to be treated."

Dr. Allen earned her PhD from the University of Connecticut in Storrs.
