During his six years as Provena Health senior vice president and president and CEO of Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, Ill. Jeff Brickman, FACHE, has established a regional presence of primary care health centers throughout Will County. In 2008, he was honored with the American Hospital Association and Illinois Hospital Association's most valuable player award, given to leaders who have raised contributions on behalf of state associations and AHA's political committee.
Commenting on Mr. Brickman's award, the IHA said, "Jeff not only makes his own leadership contribution and encourages others on his team to do so, but he encourages others in leadership throughout the Provena Health system to contribute. Jeff is someone who truly understands the importance of the PAC in our advocacy strategy and works to ensure its success."
During his time at Provena, Mr. Brickman has developed cardiac, neuroscience and women and children's services at Will County's Regional Medical Center. He also oversaw a successful financial turnaround of Provena St. Mary's Hospital in Kankakee, Ill.
Mr. Brickman began his career in healthcare management at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass., where he served for 17 years in various leadership roles, finally assuming the role of senior vice president and chief operating officer. He has also served in executive positions at Meridian Health System and Meridian Hospitals Corp.
A dedicated contributor to Illinois healthcare policy, Mr. Brickman sits on the executive committee of the Illinois Hospital Association, for which he has led important initiatives to better healthcare for the community. He has also chaired a number of state task forces for IHA and served as the 2009 chair of the Will County Center for Economic Development.
His number one priority remains service to the Will County community. When Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center Immediate Care received a certified urgent care designation in 2009, he commented, "Sometimes a family member simply can not get in to see his or her primary physician when desired, but an emergency room visit is not warranted. The patient may have waited until after work or school to seek medical attention, but needs to be seen by a physician. Our immediate care facility addresses that need. It is convenient, staffed by professionals and accepts unscheduled, walk-in patients."
