Hospital Industry Leader to Know: Dr. Michael Foley of Scottsdale Healthcare

Scottsdale Healthcare chief medical officer Michael Foley, MD, has an eye for quality writing. He was recently named an "outstanding reviewer" by the American Journal of Obstetrics, meaning he sits in the top five percent of over 2,000 reviewers who evaluate scientific manuscripts submitted to the publication.

A practicing specialist in maternal-fetal medicine and expert in critical care obstetrics, Dr. Foley received the award based on the number of manuscripts reviewed, promptness, thoroughness and quality of the reviews, according to a report by EV Living.

On the American Journal of Obstetrics' recognition of Dr. Foley, Scottsdale president and CEO Tom Sadvary said, "As a reviewer for this professional medical journal, Dr. Foley shares his expertise voluntarily and without pay. He truly reflects Scottsdale Healthcare's commitment to quality research, advancing medicine and improving care and outcomes for mothers and babies."

Dr. Foley has been with Scottsdale Healthcare since 2007 and held positions as medical director of academic affairs and chief academic officer before his role was expanded to chief medical officer in 2008. Prior to joining Scottsdale, he worked in a perinatal practice. He still maintains a limited clinical practice in maternal-fetal medicine.

Dr. Foley received his MD from the Chicago Medical School in 1984 and then completed his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus. He has published many scientific articles and lectures nationally and internationally on critical care medicine in obstetrics. He is the immediate past president of the Society of Maternal Fetal Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
