Vicki Darnell, president and CEO of Danville, Ky.-based Ephraim McDowell Health, has resigned, according to The Advocate-Messenger.
Here are five things to know about Ms. Darnell and her resignation.
1. Hospital officials said Ms. Darnell resigned "to completely focus on an immediate health issue."
2. Last month, Ms. Darnell went on indefinite leave due to an unspecified health issue, according to The Advocate-Messenger. Sally Davenport, former COO and director of nursing at the hospital, has been acting as interim CEO, and will continue in her role.
3. Ms. Darnell was named president and CEO in 2009.
4. Accomplishments under her leadership have contributed to a number of national recognitions for the quality of care patients receive throughout the health system, hospital officials said. "Many services and locations available for patient care were added or expanded during her tenure. Her many contributions will continue to influence the growth of EMH long into the future," they added in a statement.
5. Prior to becoming CEO, Ms. Darnell was executive vice president and COO of EMH. She also previously was vice president of patient care services and CNO of Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan.
