Emanuel Medical Center CIO David Flanders has been appointed as the hospital's new COO, according to a Forest-Blade report.
Mr. Flanders had been the CIO of the Swainsboro, Ga.-based hospital for the past five years. Before coming to EMC, he served in the U.S. Coast Guard in a variety of leadership positions, according to the report.
The appointment became effective Aug. 18, according to the report.
A recent Billian's HealthDATA report suggests CIO-to-COO moves to be relatively uncommon. A third of new COOs are lateral moves from other hospitals or health systems, 17 percent are promoted from a CNO role and 14 percent are former CEOs from other hospitals or health systems.
