Amy Goldberg, MD, has been appointed professor and chairwoman of the surgery department at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, surgeon-in-chief for Temple University Health System and medical director of perioperative services at Temple University Hospital, all based in Philadelphia.
Here are five things to know about Dr. Goldberg.
1. She has served as interim chairwoman of surgery at Temple University Hospital since September 2014.
2. Prior to that, she held various other positions at the hospital, including director of trauma for 11 years, chief of trauma and surgical critical care for 11 years, and general surgery residency program director for 12 years.
3. She has earned numerous resident and medical student teaching awards including the College of Physicians of Philadelphia Exemplar of Humanism in Medicine Award and 15 awards for teaching and clinical training excellence.
4. Dr. Goldberg was recently part of a group from Temple invited to the White House to participate in the launch of the federal government's "Stop the Bleed" initiative, which equips community residents with skills to stop life-threatening bleeding in emergency situations before first-responders arrive.
5. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and medical degree at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. She completed a residency in general surgery at Temple University Hospital.
