Cone Health names VP of strategy after Risant acquisition

Greensboro, N.C.-based Cone Health, a five-hospital system, has promoted Melissa Shearer to the new role of vice president, strategy.

The appointment comes less than three weeks after Cone Health was acquired by Risant Health, a nonprofit formed by Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente.

In this role, Ms. Shearer will connect strategic priorities with operations and drive strategic rigor and alignment across Cone Health, its regions, delivery channels and partners. She previously served as executive director of strategy and planning for the health system.

"Her fingerprints have been on so many formative bodies of work for Cone Health since joining our organization more than 20 years ago," Chief Strategy Officer Chris Cornue said in a Dec. 17 news release. "In this new role, [Ms.] Shearer will focus on how we manage our strategic approach, align work across the enterprise, bring our strategic vision to life and ensure our plans are carried out effectively by our leaders."
