Cleveland Clinic names Christopher Connell inaugural chief design officer

Cleveland Clinic selected Christopher Connell to serve in the newly created role of chief design officer, effective June 12.

Currently, Mr. Connell is a partner at Foster + Partners, a United Kingdom-based architectural firm. He was involved in the development of the Cleveland Clinic Master Plan, which serves as a roadmap for future campus development. He also helped Cleveland Clinic design its Health Education Campus, which will feature a 27,000-square-foot atrium.

Mr. Connell has worked on more than 100 projects worldwide. In his new role at Cleveland Clinic, he will lead architecture and design initiatives, ensuring that these initiatives align with the strategic goals of the organization.

"Architecture and design can truly help comfort patients and their families during a difficult time at the hospital. Natural light, noise-dampening features, green spaces, accommodations and other environmental features go a long way toward enhancing the patient experience," said Toby Cosgrove, MD, president and CEO of Cleveland Clinic. "Chris brings a wealth of experience and insight to this new role that will leave a lasting impression on all who come to Cleveland Clinic."
