After more than 15 years with Buffalo, N.Y.-based Catholic Health, Marty Boryszak has stepped down as system senior vice president of acute care and president of Mercy Hospital of Buffalo.
Mr. Boryszak's final day at the health system was Dec. 31, according to a Dec. 30 LinkedIn post.
"Catholic Health, and Mercy Hospital in particular, have made significant progress during Marty’s tenure," Catholic Health COO James Garvey said in a Dec. 31 news release shared with Becker's. "With the successful turnaround he spearheaded at Mercy Hospital, and the talented leadership team and skilled caregivers in place to build on this great work, Marty felt it was the right time to pursue new career opportunities."
In 2017, Mr. Boryszak was named president and CEO of Sisters of Charity Hospital in Buffalo. He became senior vice president of acute care in 2019 and president of Mercy Hospital in 2022, the release said.
"As my two-year assignment at Mercy came to a close, I decided that the next role wasn't a good fit at this time and decided to step away and assess what was actually best for my career and family," he told Buffalo Business First on Dec. 31. "I am so proud of the work we did at Mercy and across the system the last few years."
Before entering the healthcare industry, Mr. Boryszak spent 12 years at United Parcel Service in various finance and operational positions. In September, he told Becker's about the parallels between determining efficient package delivery and coordinating patient care logistics.
Mr. Boryszak said his mother's 42-year nursing career at Catholic Health inspired him to pursue healthcare, as well as the industry's relation to economic and political issues. "Healthcare is one of the more pervasive industries that, regardless of whether you're in the private or the public sector, it is going to impact everything that we do," he told Becker's in September.
