Gastonia, N.C.-based CaroMont Health eliminated its chief legal officer role. The move forced Maria Long, currently in the position, to depart, according to a Gaston Gazette report.
Ms. Long served as both executive vice president and chief legal officer at CaroMont Health. She was one of four EVPs in the health system's senior administration. A CaroMont spokesperson told the Gaston Gazette that the decision to eliminate the role was "strategic" and "done so to support the changing needs of CaroMont Health." Ms. Long joined the health system nearly 10 years ago.
CaroMont officials also stated that Ms. Long's departure was not related to former CEO Doug Luckett's unexpected resignation announced at the end of March.
CaroMont Interim CEO Todd Davis — previously the health system's CMO — made the decision to eliminate the chief legal officer role. There are no plans to eliminate more leadership roles in the near future, the report notes.
