AAMC taps former UW Health exec to serve as chief healthcare officer

The Association of American Medical Colleges has selected Jonathan Jaffery, MD, to serve as its chief healthcare officer. Dr. Jaffery is the former chief population health officer at Madison, Wis.-based UW Health.

At the AAMC, a key focus area for Dr. Jaffery will be helping academic medical centers succeed in value-based care while also supporting academic medical centers' mission of advancing medical education, research and clinical care, according to a Jan. 3 blog post from the organization.

In addition to his former role as chief population health officer, Dr. Jaffery was president of the UW Health Accountable Care organization. Under his leadership, the health system implemented a variety of care models that led to significant savings. Dr. Jaffery is a board-certified nephrologist and former chief medical officer for Wisconsin's Medicaid program.

He succeeds Janis Orlowski, MD, as the AAMC's chief healthcare officer.
