6 recent hospital, health system CFO exits

Multiple hospital and health system CFOs have left or announced plans to leave their roles since the beginning of 2024.

Here are 27 CFO exits Becker's has reported on this year:

Oct. 3 - Oct. 29

1. Bob Glenning, president of the financial services division and CFO of Edison, N.J.-based Hackensack Meridian Health, will retire after 18 years with the nonprofit health system, effective Dec. 9. 

2. Mike Allen, CFO of Peoria, Ill.-based OSF HealthCare submitted his resignation, effective Nov. 8, and has accepted the role as president of the financial services division and CFO at Edison, N.J.-Hackensack Meridian Health. Kristin Largent will succeed Mr. Allen at OSF HealthCare.

3. Kristen Pulio exited her role as CFO of Gaithersburg, Md.-based Adventist HealthCare and became executive vice president and CFO of Rockledge, Fla.-based Health First in September. Kevin Cargill will succeed Ms. Pulio.

4. Rick Hinds is retiring after 30 years with Cincinnati-based UC Health. Charmaine Rochester, DHA, will succeed Mr. Hinds. 

5. Robert Broermann, executive vice president and CFO of Hampton Roads, Va.-based Sentara Health, will retire in April 2025.

6. Houston Methodist executive vice president and CFO Kevin Burns retired at the end of September. Anthony DeFurio succeeded Mr. Burns.

June 25 - Aug. 26 

1. Leslie Flake, BSN, left her role as CFO of Orlando (Fla.) Health. 

2. Ed Chabalowski retired Oct. 4 as vice president of finance and CFO of Hershey, Pa.-based Penn State Health's Berks and Lancaster counties.

3. Stacey Malakoff, executive vice president, CFO and administrative officer of New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery, will retire at the end of 2025.

4. Dana Williams retired as CFO of Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. Robyn Dorris succeeded Ms. Williams. 

5. Margaret Fontana exited her role as CFO of Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins, Wyo.

May 22 - June 21

1. Bill Grigg retired as CFO of USC Arcadia (Calif.) Hospital. Abelardo Núñez succeeded Mr. Grigg July 8. 

2. Stephen Harvey has shared plans to exit his role as CFO of New York City-based Mount Sinai. Vincent Tammaro will take over in October. 

3. Tim Rieger retired as CFO of Cincinnati-based Mercy Health's Lima (Ohio) market July 12. Nikki Hutchinson succeeded Mr. Rieger. 

4. Albert Swallow III will retire as CFO of Portland-based MainHealth in early 2025.

5. Jeanné Wickens retired after more than eight years as CFO of Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Parkview Health. Ty Renbarger was named CFO of the health system, effective June 3.

Feb. 5 - May 3

1. Doug Dickerson, CFO and vice president of Porterville, Calif.-based Sierra View Medical Center retired. Craig McDonald succeeded Mr. Dickerson in June. 

2. Liz Foshage, executive vice president and CFO of St. Louis-based Ascension, is retiring in September. Saurabh Tripathi was appointed executive vice president and CFO of St. Louis-based Ascension April 29 and will succeed Ms. Foshage. 

3. Salem (Mo.) Memorial Hospital District CFO Doug Hoban resigned May 22 due to personal reasons.

4. Duluth, Minn.-based St. Luke's co-President and CFO Eric Lohn retired April 12. St. Luke's co-president Nicholas Van Deelen, MD, was promoted April 15 to sole president of St. Luke's and of Wausau, Wis.-based Asiprus Health's Minnesota Region. Chris Johnson, vice president of strategy and finance, was also promoted April 15 to interim COO. 

5. Johnson, Tenn.-based Ballad Health CFO Lynn Krutak retired June 30. Shane Hilton was hired as CFO.

6. Debbie Bloomfield, PhD, is retiring as CFO of Cincinnati-based Bon Secours Mercy Health at the end of 2024 after more than three decades with the health system. Travis Crum, BSMH's senior vice president of finance, took over as CFO on July 1.

7. Michael Szubski retired Jan. 31 after more than 15 years as CFO at Cleveland-based University Hospitals. Bradley Bond has stepped into the CFO role for the health system.

Jan. 18 - March 28

1. Dave Recupero resigned as CFO of Kern Valley Healthcare District, based in Mountain Mesa, Calif., on Feb. 12. 

2. Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare CFO Bill Rutherford retired after more than 10 years in the role. Mike Marks, HCA's senior vice president of finance, assumed the role of executive vice president and CFO on May 1. 

3. Sid Sczygelski retired as CFO of Wausau, Wis.-based Aspirus. Jerry Yang assumed the role of CFO for the health system in January, according to his LinkedIn page.

4. Ric Magnuson left his CFO role at Minneapolis-based Allina Health in April after 25 cumulative years with the health system.
