The following hospital and health system executive moves occurred within the past week, beginning with the most recent.
1. Robert Cannon will assume his role as president of Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis on Dec. 1.
2. Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota will have a new CEO come Dec. 8, when Robert Bonar Jr. assumes leadership of the state's largest pediatric system.
3. Houston-based CHI St. Luke's Health System named David Argueta, MBA, president and CEO for its Woodlands area facilities, including The Woodlands Hospital, Lakeside Hospital and the Springwoods Village Facility.
4. Margaret M. Van Bree, DrPH, was appointed to serve as president for Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, the largest hospital in the Providence-based Lifespan health system, and its pediatric division, Hasbro Children's Hospital. Her position is effective Jan. 5, 2015.
5. Alan Strauss was named senior vice president and CFO of Seton Healthcare Family, the largest hospital system in Austin, Texas, effective Nov. 1.
6. Duluth, Minn.-based Essentia Health announced the appointment of David C. Herman, MD, as CEO and member of the board of directors. Dr. Herman will join the organization in early 2015.
7. Garry C. Faja, regional president and CEO of Saint Joseph Mercy Health System in Ann Arbor, Mich., announced he will retire at the end of the year.
8. Newburyport, Mass.-based Anna Jaques Hospital President and CEO Delia O'Connor announced plans to retire at the end of this year. Mark L. Goldstein, the hospital's executive vice president and CFO, will take over as CEO as of Jan. 1, 2015.
9. Rochester (N.Y.) Regional Health System named Eric Bieber, MD, president and CEO, effective Nov. 1. Mark Clement and Warren Hern, the current co-CEOs of Rochester Regional Health System, will continue with the system until Nov. 30.
10. Steve Embree, CPA, MBA, CFO at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, Mich., was promoted to regional CFO of Marquette (Mich.) General Health System, Ishpeming, Mich.-based Bell Hospital and Hancock, Mich.-based Portage Health.
11. Jackson, Miss.-based Baptist Health Systems named Bill Thompson, CPA, as CFO.
12. Michael McEachern was named the permanent CEO of Bowie (Texas) Memorial Hospital. He served as the hospital's interim CEO since mid-April.
13. New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian Healthcare System appointed Karen Westervelt as senior vice president and COO, effective Oct. 20. Ms. Westervelt will succeed Wayne Osten, who is retiring.
