10 Hospital CFOs Who Recently Became CEOs

Hospital and health system CEOs have an array of backgrounds, and over the past several months, many new CEOs held chief financial roles.

Here are 10 former hospital and health system CFOs who were recently named or promoted to CEO.

1. The Texas Hospital Association, based in Austin, named Ted Shaw president and CEO. Mr. Shaw was interim vice president and CFO of Parkland Health & Hospital System.

2. White Mountain Regional Medical Center in Springerville, Ariz., named Greg Was CEO. Mr. Was previously served as CFO of Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke, Colo.

3. Crouse Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y., announced the appointment of Kimberly Boynton as CEO. Ms. Boynton was the hospital's CFO and will assume the position for former CEO Paul Kronenberg, MD, who became vice chair of Crouse's board.

4. Mullica Hill, N.J.-based Inspira Health Network appointed John DiAngelo president and CEO. Mr. DiAngelo was Inspira's executive vice president and CFO.

5. South Shore Medical Center in Norwell, Mass., named Tom Carroll CEO. Most recently, Mr. Carroll served as the hospital's CFO.

6. Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, Iowa, announced the appointment of Heather Cain as CEO. Ms. Cain was CFO and CIO of Monroe County Hospital and Clinics in Albia, Iowa.

7. Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar, Mo., named Wendy Duvall CEO. Ms. Duvall previously served as the hospital's CFO and still retains that role, as well.

8. Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital in Manistique, Mich., promoted Tonya Hoar as CEO. Ms. Hoar served as the hospital's CFO and continues to hold that title.

9. Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla., appointed its CFO, Rich Mutarelli, as interim president and CEO. Mr. Mutarelli took over for Steve Purves, who became president and CEO of Maricopa Integrated Health System in Phoenix.

10. Milton Johnson is set to become president and CEO of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America after serving as president and CFO of HCA. He takes over for Richard Bracken, who is retiring but will stay on as HCA's board chairman through 2014.
