Stephen R. Mason has served as president and CEO of BayCare Health System, a 10-hospital system in Clearwater, Fla., since 2004.
Prior to joining BayCare, Mr. Mason served as senior vice president and COO of Texas Health Resources in Arlington, Texas.
As BayCare's leader, Mr. Mason has helped the system make great strides through the changing world of healthcare. Mr. Mason spearheaded the plan to roll out an electronic medical record in all of BayCare's hospitals and clinics over seven years. "[EMR] enables our entire health system to deliver superior patient-centered care by providing comprehensive information at the right place and time," Mr. Mason said in a statement. In part because of those efforts, Becker's Hospital Review named BayCare as one of 61 Integrated Health Systems to Know in 2012.
In addition to leading the health system, Mr. Mason has served as the chair of One Bay: Healthy Communities, a steering group of public, private and non-profit stakeholders working to achieve positive health outcomes for Tampa-area residents. He has also held leadership roles on the board of the Florida Hospital Association, the United Way of Tampa Bay, the Tampa Bay Partnership and the Florida Low Income Pool Council.
In recognition of his years of successful healthcare leadership, Becker's Hospital Review named Mr. Mason to its 2012 list of 300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.
Mr. Mason earned a master's degree in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
