Peter S. Fine, FACHE, has served as president and CEO of Phoenix, Ariz.-based Banner Health since November 2000.
As CEO, Mr. Fine oversees one of the nation's largest secular, non-profit healthcare organizations. Banner Health operates hospitals and other facilities in seven states and is the second largest private employer in Arizona.
Before he became CEO of Banner Health, Mr. Fine was the executive vice president and COO of Milwaukee-based Aurora Health Care.
Mr. Fine was CEO when Banner Health Network was formed. BHN is a commercial ACO relationship with Aetna and was also the first ACO accepted into CMS' Pioneer ACO program in late 2011. "Through accountable care, the population health management model has real potential to emerge as a key element for controlling the rising costs of healthcare," Mr. Fine said in 2011. "Our deep involvement at this early stage of accountable care positions Banner Health and its BHN partners extremely well to thrive during this transformative phase of healthcare."
Mr. Fine has a master's degree in healthcare administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He has received many awards and honors during his time as a healthcare executive; he received Phoenix Business Journal's Most Admired CEO Award in 2010 and B'nai B'rith International's National Healthcare Award in 2007, among other awards. He is also on Becker's Hospital Review's 2012 list of 300 Hospital and Health System Leaders to Know.
