Carol H. Burrell has served as the president and CEO of Northeast Georgia Health System in Gainesville since 2011.
Ms. Burrell began her healthcare career in the 1970s as a medical technologist. From there, she went on to serve as a vice president of St. Vincent's Health System in Jacksonville, Fla., before joining NGHS in 1999. She became the system's executive vice president and COO in 2004.
During her tenure at NGHS, Ms. Burrell has helped the system expand its services to communities that need it. For instance, NGHS is currently constructing a new medical office building that is scheduled to open in early April. "I am so pleased that we are bringing more outpatient services and advanced physician specialties closer to home for [these] residents," Ms. Burrell said in a news release.
In addition to the new office building, Ms. Burrell is expanding NGHS' service area by constructing a new hospital in Braselton, Ga. The 100-bed hospital is scheduled to open in 2015. "We believe that having access to emergency services, close to home, will be a huge comfort to people in greater Braselton," Ms. Burrell explained in a news release. "The need for emergency care has grown in this area for years, and it's our pleasure to step in, fill that void and become an integral part of the community."
Ms. Burrell is actively involved in the Gainesville community. She is a member of the Gainesville Rotary, a past chair of the Northeast Georgia chapter of the American Red Cross and a past chair of Hall County's United Way. She has also served on the board of directors of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce.
